Zandonà Thermoboot – Cold & Heat Therapy Boots for Horses
The Zandonà Thermoboot is a specialised therapeutic resting boot designed for the direct application of cold and heat therapy to a horse’s tendons and joints. Part of the Zandonà Therapeutic Line, it provides a safe, controlled, and effective solution for post-exercise recovery, injury management, and rehabilitation support.
The Thermoboot is constructed from neoprene with an inner aluminium thermal coating, which helps insulate and prolong both cold and heat effects. A protective 3D-mesh lining sits against the horse’s skin to prevent burns while still allowing optimal temperature transfer. Its anatomical shape ensures stable contact with tendons and joints, offering comfort and security during use.
A strong closure system ensures the boot stays firmly in place, while the easy-pull flap allows quick and safe removal. The Thermoboot can be worn on both front and hind legs and includes two reusable gel packs (one for each boot). Available sizes are S/M and L/XL.

Cold Therapy – When & Why to Use It
Cold therapy can be used as an everyday treatment after intense exercise. During work, micro-trauma may occur in capillaries, tendons, and ligaments. This can cause hyperaemia and inflammation.
Cold therapy:
-
Causes vasoconstriction
-
Reduces inflammatory mediators and toxins
-
Decreases enzymatic activity
-
Helps relieve pain and swelling
Reducing tendon temperature as soon as possible after exercise is essential. The Thermoboot may also assist with haematomas, sprains, strains, ligament injuries, and tendon damage.
In severe cases, such as fetlock hyperextension, cold therapy can be applied in 20–30 minute sessions, four or more times per day, alongside controlled exercise and veterinary guidance.
Always consult a veterinarian if symptoms persist or injuries are severe.
Heat Therapy – When & Why to Use It
Heat therapy helps:
-
Increase blood flow
-
Support nutrient delivery
-
Improve tissue flexibility
-
Relieve stiffness and discomfort
It is useful for arthritis, pre-exercise preparation, and later stages of injury recovery. Heat should only be introduced after inflammation has subsided. If swelling is present, heat must only be applied 24 hours after swelling no longer increases.
Alternating between cold and heat therapy allows a gradual transition toward heat-only treatment.
Important Therapy Guidelines
-
Cold therapy is most effective in the first 24–48 hours after injury
-
Heat therapy may be introduced after 48 hours, once inflammation is controlled
-
Always introduce temperature therapy gradually
-
Consult a veterinarian before treating suspected tendon injuries
